The twelve

Category names are localized too, so the app does not switch to English the moment you leave the feed. Here is the Self-Love category in each language.

How Selune picks your language

Selune does not ask you to choose a language in a settings screen. It reads the preferred language list your iPhone already keeps and walks it from the top:

  • Any Portuguese setting maps to the Brazilian Portuguese library.
  • Chinese maps to Simplified Chinese. Traditional Chinese is not bundled, so if your phone is set to Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macao, Selune keeps looking down your list and uses the next language it does have.
  • Everything else matches on the two letter language code.
  • If nothing in your list matches, the app falls back to English.

The same applies to the notification text, so a reminder arrives in the language the affirmation is written in.

An honest word about multilingual affirmation apps

Twelve languages is not a rarity in this category. The App Store listing for I am, the largest affirmation app on iPhone, names fourteen. So the number by itself does not tell you much, and the question worth asking of any app is a different one: is the second language a full library, or a handful of lines with the rest still in English?

In Selune's case the answer is measurable. There are 1,054 affirmations. Each one carries a text for all twelve locales, with none missing. Switching your iPhone to Korean does not shrink what the app has to say.

Set your iPhone to any of the twelve and Selune follows, categories and reminders included.
